We were first exposed to Hospice Support Care through their Kids Helping Kids (KHK) peer counseling program in 2008. After losing a daughter to cancer in 2007, we were unsure about the mental health of our son, who was five at the time of his three-year-old sister’s death. The realization of mortality is not something that a child should recognize at age five, particularly when it is clear that people younger than you can die. The KHK program was instrumental in allowing my son to express his emotions about the loss and in helping him move forward in a safe and supportive environment. We were very impressed by the program and by the organization as a whole.

The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation was established in honor of my daughter. Because of the quality of the program offered by Hospice Support Care, we recently decided to provide a grant to them to bolster the KHK program. We have faith in their ability to use the funds wisely and to create a program unlike any other in the state.
