Hospice Support Care Family Care volunteers provide emotional, practical, and spiritual care and advocacy to individuals and families who face life-threatening illness. Our trained volunteers provide care to terminally ill patients in the home, hospital, and nursing home setting. Volunteer services may include:
HSC volunteers spend time with the family, helping them cope with their present situation, make plans for the future, and find the way to live each precious moment to the fullest. Sometimes a patient would rather share his or her feelings with a volunteer than worry a family member. There are other times when the family member feels safer sharing their fears with a volunteer. The HSC Family Care volunteer serves the entire family. For more information about our family care program, call (540) 361-7071 or contact the Family Care Coordinator. Patients must reside in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, Colonial Beach, or Lake of the Woods. No patient will be denied services from Hospice Support Care for lack of a primary caregiver. Hospice Support Care will try to identify alternative primary caregivers. Patients/families will be admitted to the Hospice Support Care programs regardless of age, type of illness, prognosis, race, sex, religion, ethnic origin, diagnosis, disabilities, or modalities of treatment. A resource library is available at the HSC office and is open to the community. These materials, books, and videos are available to anyone needing information on topics such as caring for a loved one at home, the effects of and how to cope with cancer treatments, as well as aspects of death and coping with grief. HSC also loans out and takes donations of new and slightly used medical equipment.
