Family Care

Hospice Support Care Family Care volunteers provide emotional, practical, and spiritual support and advocacy to individuals and families who face life-altering and life-threatening illness. Our trained volunteers provide non-medical support to patients in the home, hospital, and nursing home setting.

Volunteer services may include:

  • Transportation to and from doctor’s appointments
  • Caregiver respite
  • Grocery shopping
  • Meal preparation
  • Light household tasks
  • Social visits
  • Music therapy and Pet therapy
  • Chaplain visits

HSC volunteers spend time with the family, helping them cope with their present situation, make plans for the future, and find the way to live each precious moment to the fullest. Sometimes a patient would rather share his or her feelings with a volunteer than worry a family member. There are other times when the family member feels safer sharing their fears with a volunteer. The HSC Family Care volunteer serves the entire family.

How to get a Hospice Support Care volunteer:

Following a brief assessment over the phone, the Family Care Coordinator will schedule a time to meet with you and your family at your home or facility where the patient resides.  During that visit, we will assess the needs of your family and discuss other resources available in the community.  After the visit, we will match your family with a volunteer that we feel can meet your needs.  Please contact the Family Care Coordinator at 540-361-7010 or at htrascapoulos@hospicesupportcare.org to set up an appointment to meet with you and your family.
