Child Bereavement

Reaching out to those in our community who are experiencing the pain of grief and accompanying them on their journey until they are strong enough to walk alone.

The work of Hospice Support Care does not end when the patient dies. Trained volunteers and staff maintain regular phone contact with the bereaved to listen, reassure, and refer as needed. Skilled facilitators donate their time to conduct grief workshops. Bereavement services are also open to the community at large.

Children's bereavement is also addressed. Kids Helping Kids uses volunteers to facilitate and assist with a variety of activities to help children express and process their feelings. Our teen group deals with the sometimes very different needs and emotions that manifest when a difficult developmental period is made more complex by grief issues.

Hospice Support Care also offers a teen program, Teens Helping Teens. This is a bimonthly group for teens ages 13 through seniors in high school.  T.H.T. is peer support group for teens that have lost a loved one.  Teens that have experienced a significant loss benefit from knowing that they are not alone. At this age in which peer relationships are very important, teens offer their experience, wisdom, and support in a safe and comfortable group setting.  Facilitators guide discussion and activities that encourage teens to share as they build friendships and create new positive memories.  The group is voluntary and parents/guardians are advised to collaborate with their teens in the decision about attendance.  Groups will continue for 8-10 sessions.

A resource library is available at the HSC office and is open to the community. These materials, books, and videos are available to anyone needing information on topics such as caring for a loved one at home, the effects of how to cope with cancer treatments, as well as aspects of death and coping with grief.

All programs are offered through Hospice Support Care at no charge. However, we do ask that you meet with one of our staff prior to attending a group.
